Bring the Beach Home Until You’re Back on the Beach

Beachy Cocktails

It’s safe to say everyone is missing the beach and their vacation time. There’s just something about the miles of waves and warm sunshine on your skin while you dig your toes into the sand. Many of us go there to relax, unwind, and reset for a new week. Until you can get yourself back to the beaches of the Emerald Coast, we have some ideas on how you can bring the beach home in the meantime.

Enjoy a beachy cocktail – What’s your favorite thing to drink at the beach? Some popular vacation drinks are Tequila Sunrise, Long Island Iced Tea, Long Beach, and Hurricanes. Or you can browse Pinterest recipes to get some ideas and come up with your own “Quarantini”. If you want to make a fruity drink sans alcohol, you could always make a fun punch and add some pop-up drink umbrellas.

Set up camp outside – Sunshine is sunshine. We can still enjoy it from the safety of our home. Set up your beach chair and lay out a towel in your yard or driveway. Stick your feet in a kiddie pool even. Or read a book while the kids draw with chalk. It’s easy to get low on Vitamin D so that’s a good way to soak some up and boost your mood. Bring out some watermelon or pineapple and have a picnic.  Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Put on some great tunes – Instead of binge watching your favorite shows again, turn up some music you love that reminds you of vacation. Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, and Jack Johnson all have great songs that remind us of sitting on a beach.  Play some music outside and close your eyes bringing you back to past beachy memories.

Work on your skills – This is a great time to practice your favorite sports. What do you like to play at the beach? Cornhole (aka Bags), volleyball, and Spikeball are all fun games that are popular here locally. Cornhole and Spikeball can be played at home, and you can sharpen your skills while in quarantine. Work on your volleyball serve or set up a net in your yard. Impress all your friends when you reunite!

Plan your next vacation – Specific dates may not be made just yet, but you can take the time to check out areas for your next trip. Browse 30A vacation rentals and see what views or neighborhoods you like. Check out restaurants nearby or where to rent bicycles and paddleboards. Talk with family and see when everyone can get together and work out transportation. When the vacation rentals open again, you’ll be all ready to lock in your trip.
